The Californian singer has recorded her last season on the program and hopes to release an album this year and accompany it on her first tour in 6 years
Katy Perry appeared on the night of February 12 on the Jimmy Kimmel Live program to promote the premiere of the new season of American Idol, which on the 18th of that same month began broadcasting its 22nd season on ABC where the singer participates as jury after 7 seasons.
The singer spoke on the program about her experience as a jury throughout these years, including memories she has of American Idol, what she has enjoyed being part of the program and what she likes the format, however, she announced that this season will be the last one in which we can see her sitting in the chair.
In her own words, she told the host that she “loves the show” but that right now she wants to “go out and see the world and maybe release new music.” With this, the “Dark Horse” singer’s new songs could lead her to do their first tour in 6 years, thus returning to the music industry as such.
It should be remembered that the singer sold the rights to her previous albums to Litmus Music. According to Billboard, the company paid the singer $225 million for her participation in Katy’s five albums: One of the Boys, Teenage Dream, PRISM, Witness and Smile.
Additionally, according to Billboard “Perry remains the first woman and second artist (after Michael Jackson) to place five songs from the same album atop the Hot 100, with 2010’s Teenage Dream: “California Gurls,” “Teenage Dream.” “, “Fireworks“, “E.T.” and “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.).”
This new beginning of the singer is, according to The Sun, “almost completed” so it could see the light of day this year 2024. They also announced that “Katy has been working on her most personal album for much of the last two years. She’s been doing it on her own terms and it’s quite different from anything she’s released before.”
As for the tour, they have announced that the singer wants to leave her residence in Las Vegas where she has been triumphing for the last two years to tour the world with her new album. This tour could happen at the end of the year but according to sources close to the singer “it is still being resolved.”
Her end as a jury alongside Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan seems to lead to a new Katy with her own closed projects to show us her most vulnerable, personal and different side and accompany her again with her fans. Until further notice we can only enjoy it in the new season, already broadcast.
The singer of “Roar” can roar again louder than ever and perhaps with this new album she will win the Grammy she so richly deserves. However, this year artists like Selena Gómez or Ariana Grande are going to have a difficult time getting their songs to the top 1.
