The EP features Springsteen’s fiery onstage remarks about the state of U.S. politics and includes live recordings from his European tour kickoff.
Springsteen Turns Political Speech Into Powerful Opening Track
Bruce Springsteen is no stranger to political expression, but his latest release makes that commitment louder than ever. Just a week after making headlines for calling the U.S. government “corrupt, incompetent and treasonous” during his Manchester show, the Boss has released a new Land of Hope & Dreams EP that puts his words front and center.
The EP opens with a recording of the viral speech, delivered to a packed crowd during the launch of his European tour. In it, Springsteen calls on listeners to raise their voices in defense of democracy and against authoritarianism.
“In my home, the America I love, the America I’ve written about… is currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent and treasonous administration,” Springsteen says in the recorded address. “Tonight, we ask all who believe in democracy and the best of our American experience to rise with us… and let freedom ring.”
These remarks ignited a firestorm on social media, particularly from former president Donald Trump, who immediately took to Truth Social to mock and attack the artist.
Live Tracks Echo Themes of Resistance
The six-track EP doesn’t stop at political commentary—it also delivers a setlist filled with anthems that have long represented Springsteen’s hope-filled yet critical view of America. Live versions of “Land of Hope & Dreams,” “Long Walk Home,” “My City of Ruins,” and “Chimes of Freedom” are included, all recorded during the Manchester performance.
Later in the EP, another impromptu speech captures the same tone of urgency and defiance.
“They’re taking sadistic pleasure in the pain they inflict on American workers,” Springsteen says in the second clip. “They’re abandoning our great allies and siding with dictators against those struggling for their freedom.”
The messages underscore Springsteen’s belief that music and activism are inseparable—a belief he’s carried for decades.
Trump Escalates with Insults, Memes and Conspiracies
The reaction from Trump was both swift and aggressive. After the initial Manchester remarks, he labeled Springsteen “dumb as a rock” and “highly overrated,” even mocking the rock legend’s appearance. “This dried out ‘prune’ of a rocker (his skin is all atrophied!) ought to KEEP HIS MOUTH SHUT,” Trump posted.
But the drama didn’t end there. Following the EP’s release, Trump doubled down with a digitally edited video of himself hitting Springsteen with a golf ball, prompting widespread criticism—and memes—from both sides of the political spectrum.
The former president also made bizarre allegations, claiming without evidence that Springsteen, along with Beyoncé, Oprah Winfrey, and Bono, had participated in an “illegal election scam” for Kamala Harris during the 2024 campaign. Trump alleged that Springsteen was paid to endorse Harris—an accusation firmly denied by the Harris campaign and unsupported by any campaign finance records.
Springsteen Remains Unshaken in His Opposition
For longtime fans, Springsteen’s latest clash with Trump is nothing new. The E Street frontman has repeatedly voiced opposition to the former president’s rhetoric and policies. In a 2020 interview with The Atlantic, he called Trump “a threat to our democracy.” And during the 2024 election cycle, Springsteen was an active supporter of Kamala Harris, playing at rallies and appearing in campaign ads.
“Donald Trump does not understand this country, its history, or what it means to be deeply American,” he said in one televised spot.
Now, with Land of Hope & Dreams, Springsteen is turning his message into music—broadcasting his vision of an America that stands for equality, justice, and truth.
A Cultural Flashpoint Ahead of a Crucial Election
Springsteen’s EP drops at a politically charged moment, as the U.S. gears up for the 2026 midterm elections. The artist’s decision to release the speech not just as a viral moment, but as part of a formal project, signals a renewed urgency in his activism. Whether embraced or condemned, his words—and the music that follows—have reignited a national conversation.
In true Springsteen fashion, he’s not backing down. He’s turning up the volume.
