The BAFTAs are those awards that not only celebrate cinema but also the sophistication and elegance of British fashion. “British Style” perfectly combines tradition with avant-garde touches and the BAFTAs red carpet proves it. From Prince William in his velvet jacket to Cillian Murphy in a silk sash looking casual. What were the best representations of British Style on the red carpet? We show them to you.
The President of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, Prince William (BAFTAs), is one of the most anticipated figures at this award ceremony, as is his outfit. This year he wore a dark blue suit with a velvet jacket from Armani that stood out for its texture. To complete his look he wore patent leather shoes and a black bowtie. A great look to highlight his position at the awards but not look overdressed in front of the guests.
Paul Mescal was another great representation of British sophistication. The Irish actor appeared at the BAFTAs in a black Gucci suit which stood out especially for the jacket. Its design was double-breasted with hidden buttons and cream-colored details on the lapels. In addition, it has a small rhinestone detail on the left side of the lapel.
And this detail was not exclusive to Paul Mescal. Barry Keoghan also wore rhinestones on the lapel of his jacket too. However, in his case, the design of his suit is from Burberry. Are we detecting a trend in men’s tailoring? We will find out on future red carpets.
Another great representation of English style and keeping the tradition was David Beckham. The football player appeared on the red carpet in a timeless black suit from Ralph Lauren, a guaranteed measure of success since it follows the canon of what is expected at an event like this. The black suit with a white shirt and a black bow is usually the formula for success without risking too much.
On the other hand, someone who did take a complete risk with his look and did a great job in terms of style was Andrew Scott. The Irish actor appeared at the awards in a total red suit designed by Berluti. From his shoes to his shirt, the color red was the protagonist of his striking style.
And although color is a great ally to make an outfit stand out, brightness is also a great ally. Archie Madekwe knows that since he wore a Loewe suit with a shiny black jacket that stayed within the classic trend but gave it a modern twist.
And speaking of looking modern, Cillian Murphy’s outfit stood out especially. The actor looked comfortable and relaxed in his monochromatic ensemble designed by Zegna which featured suit pants, a cummerbund, a flowy shirt, and a coat.
The truth is, the BAFTA’s leave us with many interesting ideas to apply, such as adding a brooch or some decoration to the lapel of a suit or making it stand out by using color as the protagonist of an outfit.
