The Spurs have confirmed that Wembanyama will not be able to play any more this season due to a right shoulder injury after the All Star
Victor Wembanyama, the San Antonio Spurs’ star player and one of the best in the NBA, will miss the remainder of the season due to a deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder.
In a medical statement, the Texas team reported that the 21-year-old Frenchman was diagnosed with the injury after this week’s All-Star game at the Golden State Warriors’ arena.
“The San Antonio Spurs announced today that Victor Wembanyama has been diagnosed with a deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder. The condition was discovered when Wembanyama returned to San Antonio following the All-Star Game in San Francisco. Wembanyama is expected to miss the remainder of the 2024-25 regular season. The team will provide updates as appropriate,” the Spurs’ statement read.
According to specialist media, the injury suffered by ‘Wemby’ is usually treated with anticoagulant drugs, which generally prevents the player from participating in a contact sport such as basketball. Despite this, the center is expected to be fully recovered by the start of the 2025/26 season.

Wembanyama, the reigning ‘rookie of the year’ after his first season in the NBA, averaged 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 3.6 blocks in 71 games with the Spurs in 2023/24. This year, he was the favorite to win the trophy for the best defender of the season, but he will not be eligible for the award as he did not meet the minimum requirement for games.
Wembanyama had already made 403 three-pointers and blocked 176 shots this season. No player in NBA history has finished a season with those numbers, and Wembanyama did it before the All-Star break. He also averaged 24.3 points and 11.3 rebounds per game.
