Ali Ahmed scores twice, Müller records milestone 300th career goal, and captain Gauld marks comeback with a goal as Whitecaps defeat Vancouver FC 4-2 in the TELUS Canadian Championship final.
The Vancouver Whitecaps solidified their domestic dominance by claiming their fourth consecutive TELUS Canadian Championship, beating Vancouver FC 4-2 at BC Place to secure a record fifth Voyageurs Cup in club history.
Ali Ahmed, named tournament MVP, opened the scoring and added a second, while German legend Thomas Müller tallied his 300th career goal and third assist in as many games. Team captain Ryan Gauld returned from injury to notch a goal in his first appearance in nearly seven months, capping a storybook evening in front of home fans.
The Whitecaps wasted little time asserting control, with Ahmed converting from close range in the 5th minute and then earning the penalty that Müller buried off the post to double the lead minutes later. Müller’s goal also marked the 35th trophy of his career, surpassing Toni Kroos as the most decorated German footballer of all time.
Despite two quick ripostes from Vancouver FC—goals by Thierno Bah and Nicolás Mezquida—the Whitecaps struck back each time, with Ahmed pouncing on a loose ball for his second of the night and Gauld sealing the scoreline just four minutes after entering the match to a standing ovation.
Vancouver FC fought valiantly, showing flashes of threat and never giving up under coach Martin Nash, but the Whitecaps’ 74% possession and 20-4 advantage in shots underlined a one-sided final. In addition to clinching the Canadian Championship, Vancouver also books a spot in the 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup after their first-ever run to the final earlier this year. Müller, Ahmed, Gauld, and the surging Whitecaps now turn their attention to the MLS playoffs, targeting an even deeper postseason run after rewriting the club’s record books.
