Despite their decade-long friendship, there appears to be some bad blood between Taylor Swift and Blake Lively.

Everyone knows all too well that all friendships have their ups and downs. This, however, seems to be the end of one of Hollywood’s most emblematic duos. Taylor Swift (35) and Blake Lively (37) already had been making headlines recently due to Lively’s ferocious ongoing legal battle against “It Ends With Us” co-star and director Justin Baldoni (41).
Just when we thought the legal dispute couldn’t get messier, this past week Miss Swift has been dragged into the turmoil once again as Baldoni’s lawyer, Bryan Freedman, claimed Lively’s team had attempted to strong arm the superstar into speaking out.
Context On The Legal Dispute
In December 2024, Lively filed a lawsuit against Baldoni, alleging sexual harassment and retaliation during the film’s production. Baldoni responded with a $400 million countersuit, accusing Lively of defamation and extortion. Amid these proceedings, Swift’s name surfaced unexpectedly.

Although Swift’s involvement with the film was limited to licensing her song “My Tears Ricochet” for the soundtrack, Baldoni’s legal team subpoenaed her, claiming she was used to pressure him into accepting Lively’s script changes. Swift’s representatives condemned the subpoena as a publicity stunt, emphasizing her minimal role in the film’s production.
Big Reputations
According to Bryan Freedman, Lively’s legal team sent the superstar a letter threatening to leak private messages between the actress and the singer if the latter did not release a statement supporting her.
“If Ms Swift refused to do so, private text messages of a personal nature in Ms Lively’s possession would be released,” Freedman’s filing states.
Mike Gottlieb, the actress’ lawyer, has firmly denied the accusations. “We unequivocally deny these so-called allegations, which are cowardly, anonymously sourced, and completely disconnected from reality,” he says.
On Thursday, Judge Lewis J. Liman granted Gottlieb’s request to remove the letter from the court record.
The filing follows objections from Swift’s legal team to requests by Baldoni’s attorneys for documentation or testimony. Swift’s representatives have maintained that the pop star has no involvement in the events underlying the case.
The End Of A Very Public Friendship?
The legal entanglement has strained Swift and Lively’s friendship. A source close to Taylor has claimed that her friendship with Lively has “halted”, adding that the singer “wants no part in this drama”, People reports.
Another insider says that Lively and Swift, whose friendship can be documented going back to 2014, are indeed “taking some space,” but adds that they are “not no longer friends.”
You Can Hear It In The Silence
Swift’s decision to remain publicly silent on the matter has sparked debate. Some insiders argue that her lack of support for Lively, especially given her own history of advocating for sexual assault victims, could be detrimental to Lively’s case.
Others contend that Swift’s silence is a strategic move to distance herself from a situation she did not choose to be part of.
Bandaids Don’t Fix Bullet Holes
The fallout extends beyond Swift and Lively. Reports indicate that Swift and her partner, NFL star Travis Kelce, have distanced themselves from Lively and Reynolds. Additionally, model Gigi Hadid, a mutual friend, has reportedly severed ties with Lively, citing loyalty to Swift.

Swift and Lively’s friendship faces an uncertain future. While neither has made public statements about the current state of their relationship, the legal battle’s repercussions suggest a significant rift. Whether their bond can withstand this turmoil remains to be seen.
As the legal proceedings continue, scheduled for March 2026, both swifties and skeptics watch closely, not only for the case’s outcome but also for the potential reconciliation.
