What is EGOT status?
EGOT is the acronym that represents the four most important awards in the American entertainment industry. It is composed of an Emmy (TV), a Grammy (Music and Audio), an Oscar Academy Award (Cinema and Film) and a Tony Award (Theatre in Broadway). In order to achieve the EGOT status, one must receive at least one of each of these prizes throughout their career.

Achieving such a standing is probably the most wanted and desired position for anyone in the industry. The EGOT contains each of the most valuable prizes of the entertainment industry faces. It is a rank that shows an exceptional versality, talent and recognition for one’s career in very distant arts. A status that only 22 people have reached in history.
EGOT Origins
Its origins go back to the creation of all of these prize evenings. However, it did not get a lot of attention until the 80’s. Miami Vice’s star Philip Michael Thomas popularized the concept of an EGOT thanks to his pursuit of the status.
Even though the American singer and actor has not yet received any of the needed prizes for an EGOT, the term stayed settled. The first person to ever complete the EGOT status was Richard Rodgers in 1962.

The Oscar is known to be most challenging prize to achieve, as it is a very limited and exclusive awarding event. This happens because it is more difficult to get into a production with such a high level with chances of competing against others.
Moreover, it is also very hard to win an Oscar award since the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is very demanding and category conservative. The film award ceremony does not count with a lot of different categories, which also minimizes opportunities.
