The Fab Four are getting the cinematic treatment they’ve always deserved — four times over.
Sony Pictures and Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes have revealed new casting updates for their ambitious four-part Beatles biopic project, each film told from the perspective of one of the legendary band members.
The announcement confirms that Paul Mescal, Barry Keoghan, George MacKay, and Charlie Rowe will portray John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, respectively.

A Cinematic First
This project marks the first time The Beatles’ music and life story have been fully authorized by the band’s company, Apple Corps Ltd.
Each film will tell the story from one member’s perspective — with overlapping events and unique emotional tones — culminating in a shared finale.
Sam Mendes described the approach as “a cinematic symphony — four movements, four souls, one revolution.”

Casting the Fab Four
The new casting updates have electrified fans and critics alike:
- Charlie Rowe (Rocketman) completes the lineup as Ringo Starr, expected to deliver the humor and warmth essential to the group’s chemistry.
- Paul Mescal (Aftersun, Gladiator II) will play John Lennon, bringing intensity and emotional depth to the role.
- Barry Keoghan (Saltburn) joins as Paul McCartney, praised by Mendes as “the heartbeat of the band.”
- George MacKay (1917) transforms into George Harrison, embodying his spiritual and introspective side.
“Each actor brings something distinct — just like the Beatles themselves did,” Mendes said in a statement.

The Vision Behind the Films
Mendes, known for 1917 and American Beauty, says the goal is to explore fame, brotherhood, and creative tension from different angles — “like walking through the same dream four times.”
The four films are being written by John Logan (Skyfall, Gladiator) and will be shot back-to-back across 2026, primarily in Liverpool, London, Hamburg, and New York.
“We want to capture not just the Beatles’ rise, but what it cost them — emotionally, artistically, spiritually,” Mendes told The Guardian.

Four Perspectives, One Legacy
Each film will be released under the character’s name:
John, Paul, George, and Ringo.
While each installment can stand alone, Mendes confirmed that viewers who watch all four will experience an interwoven meta-narrative, revealing the complete picture of the band’s rise and breakup.
Sony plans to release the films over 2027 and 2028, one per season, creating what many critics call “a cinematic event unlike anything before.”

Fan and Industry Reaction
The announcement dominated film and music media this week.
BeatlesBiopic trended worldwide on X, while fans praised Mendes’ bold structure and casting choices.
“If anyone can capture the Beatles’ chaos and beauty, it’s Sam Mendes,” wrote one viral tweet.
Even Paul McCartney reportedly gave his blessing, calling the idea “mad enough to work.”
Music and Soundtrack
Apple Corps confirmed that the films will feature original Beatles master recordings, a rare privilege in biographical cinema.
Hans Zimmer is rumored to be consulting on the sound design to preserve the era’s authenticity.
The soundtrack releases will coincide with the films, featuring remastered mixes supervised by Giles Martin (son of Beatles producer George Martin).

With an unprecedented format, powerhouse cast, and full cooperation from the Beatles’ estate, Sam Mendes’ four-part biopic project could redefine the modern music movie.
If successful, it won’t just retell the story of The Beatles — it will re-experience it through the eyes of the four men who changed the world.
