The biggest Christmas song race in the UK just announced its winner. The annual Official Christmas Number 1 Race began a few days ago with a variety of top hits that come from different eras.
This musical British tradition takes place in the middle of December, more specifically, this year’s competition was from Friday 12 December until Thursday 18 December. Moreover, BBC Radio 1 reveals the results on the week of December 25th. The thing is, this is not the usual race where people vote for their winner. Instead, what crowns the champion is the number of sales, streams and downloads of each song.
Some of the best contenders for the #1 spot on the Official Christmas Number 1 Race are RAYE’s Where Is My Husband, Olivia Dean’s Man I Need and Taylor Swift’s The Fate of Ophelia. Their great numbers on international charts are a clear factor in this competition.
Kylie Minogue Makes History with XMAS
Nevertheless, there has been one hit song that has not left the ranking’s peak since it landed. Therefore, it achieved the biggest number of streams and sales, becoming the Christmas Number 1 2025. Kylie Minogue and her festive track XMAS were the winner of one of the most important weeks in UK’s music sphere.
This wonderful result was shared on a special show from BBC Radio 1 on the week of December 25. Official Charts also admitted that the British legend made history with her latest win: “In securing the Christmas Number 1 crown, Kylie Minogue becomes the first female artist to boast UK Number 1 singles across four different decades -the 1980s, 1990s, 2000s and 2020s.”
The Padam Padam artist wanted to thank fans for their support saying: “It’s hard to put into words how special this feels. Being Christmas Number 1 really is the most wonderful gift! I’m so thankful to everyone who’s been listening and sharing the love and I’m wishing you all a very Merry Christmas!”, said Kylie Minogue on an exclusive interview with Official Charts.

Since she announced her plan to enter the festive chart race, we have always felt she could mount a serious challenge, but it was hard to imagine that she would send the records toppling as she has this week.”
Although the race is over, Christmas songs are ready to stay on the charts for a little longer. This new week’s Official Chart keeps some of the most popular festive songs on it. However, some of the most streamed hits of the moment, such as JADE’s Church and Sombr’s 12 To 12, have interrupted.
