SOUR, Olivia Rodrigo’s first studio album turns five this year and she is back with some new additions. She collaborated with legend rockstar David Byrne on a new version of her debut hit drivers license.
The good 4 u artist will release a series of version songs from her disc SOUR, as a way to commemorate its fifth anniversary. Iconic singer David Byrne forms part of this amazing and new project with the song drivers license. Moreover, this is the first remake hit to be released. In this brand-new cover, the British musician makes some subtle changes to the tune’s lyrics and its production, creating something closer to his musical style.
Rodrigo and Byrne’s Linkup
On an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the former member of Talking Heads talked about his connection with Rodrigo. “I knew some of her songs. I went to see her show when she was at Madison Square Garden in 2024. I thought it was really good. Her songs are funny, but kind of moving at the same time”.
He continued talking about the conversation they had once the show was over: “She was obviously having a great time. And so when she and her folks reached out to me and said, ‘Do you want to do a song together?’, I immediately said yes. I thought ‘this will be great.’ I like her sensibility, her songs. I said, ‘can we do some choreography? Can we do some movement? Do we have time to work something out.’ And we did.”

Moreover, the American popstar shared this announcement to fans on her social media. She added a comment talking about this linkup: “SOUR is turning 5 years old this year! and to celebrate, i’m so excited to announce an upcoming series of reimagined SOUR covers from some of my favorite artists ever. we’re starting off insanely strong with an incredible reworking of drivers license from one of my all-time heroes, David Byrne.”
Olivia also mentioned how she felt hearing the record for the first time: “David is nothing short of a legend and I actually cried when I heard his version of this song. 2025 Gov Ball – The Start
The thing is this is not the first time they have done something related to music together. Back in June 2025, the Governors Ball Music Festival took place in New York’s Flushing Meadows Corona Park. Olivia was one of the event’s headliners, performing on Saturday 7 June. David Byrne came onstage as a huge surprise for the festival’s audience. They performed the 1983 Talking Heads’ classic Burning Down the House.
People at the Governors Ball enjoyed this crossover so much, as it was a way of connecting two different generations of artists. Moreover, to add into the act, they wore outstanding matching outfits and had a choreography planned together.
