Lando Norris leads from pole to flag to win in Brazil as Verstappen fights back from pit lane and Ferrari suffers double DNF
Lando Norris claimed victory at the São Paulo Grand Prix, capping off a near-perfect weekend to strengthen his bid for a first Formula 1 world title. Starting from pole, Norris led the race with composure despite early safety car interventions. He finished seven seconds clear of Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli, who fought off a late attack from Max Verstappen to secure his best result so far in Formula 1.
Verstappen, starting from the pit lane after engine penalties, delivered a stunning drive to finish third. The Red Bull driver overcame an early puncture and scythed through the field, but ran out of laps as he closed on Antonelli for second. Verstappen’s effort was remarkable, but Norris’s consistent pace and control at the front left no opening for a late twist.
The race was punctuated by a dramatic incident starring title contender Oscar Piastri. As the race resumed after the first safety car, Piastri’s bold move at turn 1 resulted in contact with Antonelli and Charles Leclerc. The collision forced Leclerc into retirement and earned Piastri a costly ten-second penalty, ultimately restricting him to fifth place and allowing Norris to open a 24-point gap at the top of the standings with just three races to go.
For Ferrari, the day was disastrous with both Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton retiring—Hamilton after an early clash damaged his car’s floor. The double DNF dealt a blow to their fight for second in the constructors’ championship.
With this second consecutive win, Norris takes commanding momentum into the final stretch of the season, while Verstappen’s title hopes fade and Antonelli announces himself as a future force in the sport. The championship returns in two weeks with the Las Vegas Grand Prix, where Norris could edge closer to sealing his maiden crown.
