The track appears on his upcoming album with new band the Chrome Hearts, arriving this summer.
Rock legend Neil Young is taking a bold stance against billionaires, electric vehicles, and political power with his latest track, Let’s Roll Again. Released May 2, the song calls out Elon Musk, Tesla owners, and corporate complicity in climate issues, using Young’s signature folk-rock protest style.
Set to appear on his new album Talkin’ to Trees, Let’s Roll Again is the first track released from Young’s new collaboration with his band the Chrome Hearts. The album, due out June 13, 2025, marks a new era in Young’s music—and a return to his roots in activism.
Calling Out Tesla & “Fascist” Owners
In the most talked-about verse of the song, Neil Young name-checks Tesla and delivers a pointed line:
“If yer a fascist, then get a Tesla / If it’s electric, it doesn’t matter.”
The lyric echoes the style of protest songs from Woody Guthrie, blending irony with a message that critiques both greenwashing and political alignment. While Young has long supported environmental causes, the dig at electric car giant Tesla stands out as a bold challenge to the company’s clean image—especially under the leadership of Elon Musk, who Young has criticized before.
The track encourages traditional automakers like Ford, GM, and Chrysler to build clean-energy vehicles that “won’t kill our kids,” raising questions about both safety and ethical responsibility in the EV market.
A Political Edge: Elon Musk and Trump
The song also comes during a politically tense moment in the U.S., with Elon Musk serving in Donald Trump’s cabinetas head of the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency. Musk’s ties to the administration, combined with his ownership of X (formerly Twitter) and his influence over public discourse, have made him a polarizing figure.
Though Billboard has reached out to Tesla for comment, the company has yet to respond to Young’s accusations or the “fascist” label.
This isn’t the first time Young has clashed with Musk. In 2022, Young removed his music from Spotify in protest of COVID-19 misinformation, prompting online debates about freedom of speech and platform accountability—issues that have only intensified since Musk acquired Twitter.

‘Talkin’ to Trees’: New Album, New Band
Let’s Roll Again will be part of Young’s new album Talkin’ to Trees, his first full-length project with the Chrome Hearts, a band he formed earlier this year. The LP also includes the previously released single Big Change, which dropped in January 2025.
Talkin’ to Trees is expected to reflect Young’s ongoing environmental and political themes while introducing a rawer, live-band sound. The album artwork and full tracklist are expected to be revealed in the coming weeks.
Chrome Hearts Set to Tour Worldwide
Following the album’s release, Neil Young and the Chrome Hearts will embark on a global tour starting June 18 in Sweden. The European leg will continue through early July before the group heads to North America in August, beginning with a performance in Charlotte, North Carolina on Aug. 8.
The tour is being billed as a “no-frills rock revival” and will feature tracks from Young’s vast discography as well as new material from Talkin’ to Trees.
A Message That Won’t Be Ignored
With Let’s Roll Again, Neil Young isn’t just making a musical statement—he’s reigniting his legacy as one of rock’s most fearless political voices. From Tesla critiques to digs at government ties, the track serves as a reminder that music still has power to challenge the status quo.
Whether fans agree with his message or not, one thing’s clear: Neil Young isn’t slowing down. He’s rolling again—and he’s bringing a message that demands attention.
