The Dominican has signed a contract worth 765 million dollars that will link him to the New York Mets for the next fifteen seasons. This amount exceeds the 700 million of Shohei Ohtani, who signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Baseball is breaking records. Major League Baseball (MLB) player Juan Soto has signed the largest contract in the history of the sport, according to several American media outlets. Specifically, the Dominican will be linked to the New York Mets for the next fifteen seasons at a rate of 765 million dollars, which is equivalent to 51 million a year.
Thus, the new MLB contract shatters the 700 million dollars reached in the agreement between Japanese baseball player Shohei Ohtani and the Los Angeles Dodgers, which until now held the record.
According to Espn, the contract between Soto and the New York franchise does not include deferred payments, as did Ohtani’s contract with the Los Angeles team, so the total amount could rise above 800 million dollars.

New York Yankees, the franchise where Soto played before making the jump to the Mets, tried to retain their star player, putting a contract of 760 million dollars and sixteen seasons on the table. However, it did not attract the Dominican baseball player.
Soto debuted in the highest baseball competition on the planet in 2018, in the ranks of the Washington Nationals. He was with the team until 2022, when he signed for San Diego Padres, a team where he played for the next two seasons. His time with New York Yankees has been fleeting, just one year.
