Met Gala 2024: Sleeping Beauties and the Garden of Time

Musicians, Athletes, Hollywood Stars, Kpop Idols and everyone get together in the Met Gala 2024 with this year’s open themes

Last night New York bowed down to the stars. The Met Gala 2024 gave us the official Costume Institute exhibition on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art being “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” but the dress code and general theme of the Met Gala was the “Garden of Time.” As always, everyone had their own interpretation of the theme, with some ignoring it and some making it their own.

The obscure and somewhat confusing theme (or themes) made this year’s red carpet particularly interesting. While some guests accepted the challenge with impressive archival pulls and high-concept masterpieces, others completely chose to ignore the theme for fear of misinterpreting it. However, as every year goes by in the Met, ignoring the theme is still a better choice than being basic.

The boring black suits were still present but male attendants are becoming more risky every day

Some of them used the “Garden of Time” theme as a way to spice up their suits. Others decided to ignore it.

Brown and Cream colored suits were trending as Donald Glover (Childish Gambino) and Chris Hemsworth arrived early to the red carpet.

Glover arrived in a dusky Saint Laurent suit with a big silhouette, Hemsworth opted for an all-beige Tom Ford suit.

Bad Bunny took one of the most Risky looks, not everyone was convinced about it.

Kpop group Stray Kids looked a bit too in uniform for such a big band.

Their style was head-to-toe Tommy Hilfiger.

Sir Lewis Hamilton was widely considered the best dressed of the night, he used the “Garden of Time” theme to talk about the story of an 18th-century African gardener who faced the adversities of slavery but triumphed, becoming the first black gardener in Wales.

The 39-year-old Brit wore clothes from the prestigious British luxury brand, Burberry, and exuded an aura of sophistication. Perhaps next year we could see him partner with an italian brand as he joins Ferrari.

Nicholas Galitizine was criticizided for his basic look but still had some small details to fit the theme.

Galitzine, with his dramatic lapels and subtle floral embroidery, tried to fit the theme with a Fendi look.

Andrew Scott was also controversial as some like and some hated his look.

He arrived together with Donatella Versace in full Versace clothing.

Barry Keoghan opted for a vintage look.

Like Lewis Hamilton, he arrived in full Burberry.

Josh O’Connor was very surprising and praised as he arrived in a colorful look.

The Challengers star was risky in abstract Loewe tails.

Women were as every year the protagonist of the Met Gala

Camila Cabello announced her new album before the gala and then served one of the best looks of the night

Her made her entrance to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, carrying a block of ice with a black rose encapsulated in its center.

Lana del Rey was one of the most praised looks of the night, risky and rewarding

Everyone is now making their list of their best and worst dressed and waiting to know next year’s theme soon. Perhaps some of these missed names will be there after missing this year with another theme of fashion.
