The Dutch RedBull driver marks an era in F1 and goes for Hamilton and Schumacher’s records.

Max Verstappen has clinched his fourth consecutive Formula 1 World Championship at the Las Vegas Grand Prix, joining the elite ranks of motorsport legends. Despite finishing 5th in the race behind George Russell (1st), Lewis Hamilton (2nd), Carlos Sainz (3rd), and Charles Leclerc (4th), Verstappen’s performance throughout the season secured the title with two races to spare. This victory places the 27-year-old Dutchman alongside Alain Prost and Sebastian Vettel, each with four titles, and within striking distance of Juan Manuel Fangio’s five and the record seven held by Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton.

Unlike his dominant 2022 and 2023 campaigns, where Red Bull’s car was leagues ahead, Verstappen faced a tougher challenge in 2024. McLaren emerged as a strong contender, with Lando Norris spearheading their charge. Verstappen’s ability to adapt to a less dominant car highlighted his exceptional skill set. By the sixth race of the 24-race calendar, Verstappen had already shown he could win under pressure, even when his Red Bull wasn’t the best on the grid.

The season started with Verstappen securing wins in four of the first five races. However, in Miami, a poorly timed Safety Car cost him victory and signaled McLaren’s growing competitiveness. The Imola Grand Prix was a turning point; Verstappen, despite balance issues with his car, held off Norris to secure an emphatic win. This showcased his resilience and adaptability, using every ounce of his talent to exploit the strengths of his car and minimize its weaknesses.

Throughout the season, Verstappen demonstrated remarkable consistency. He made the most of every opportunity, avoiding errors and extracting maximum performance even when his car fell short of McLaren’s pace. His rival, Norris, had the better car for significant portions of the season but faltered under pressure, making mistakes that allowed Verstappen to maintain his championship lead.

Verstappen’s ability to adapt to different race situations was extraordinary. Whether attacking, defending, or managing the race strategically, he showcased a mastery of racing dynamics. His aggressive yet calculated approach in wheel-to-wheel battles intimidated rivals and ensured he stayed ahead in crucial moments.

Critics of Verstappen’s previous titles often pointed to Red Bull’s dominance as the key to his success. However, 2024 silenced those doubts. Verstappen won this championship not because of a superior car but through sheer determination, tactical brilliance, and exceptional driving skills. This season cemented his legacy as one of Formula 1’s all-time greats.
