How was the casting process for the tv show?
Marc Cistaré, the showrunner of the tv show, told me about this project three years before filming it, and I completely fell in love with the story.
Did you initially audition for your character or for another character?
Marc always knew that he wanted me to be Itzi, and I felt very identified with her in many ways. So from the beginning it was her.
Any anecdote you can tell us about the casting process?
As I say, I don’t remember specific castings, but there were many rehearsals to see the chemistry with the actors.
And for example, Alejandra Onieva and I already had a lot of chemistry in the first rehearsal, and it seemed like we had each other before. We were talking for hours non-stop afterwards and the producer, Marc, told us, “Hey, that’s enough, you’re taking it too seriously.”
Tell us a little bit about your character.
Itzi is a Basque ball player who flees to Mexico for love. She is vitalist, transparent, and a fighter.
But above all, she is a very good person with very clear values.
Do you feel identify with your character?
I think I would like to be much more like her.
Especially in being so integral with what she thinks. I still have a bit of trouble setting boundaries and not caring what others think.
But I do think I’m very vitalist like her and very loyal to the people I love.
Could you tell us in which cities the tv show was filmed?
In Mexico City, Madrid, San Sebastian, all very different.
Any anecdote you can tell us about the filming?
One day I hit Claudia Salas with a ball while serving, I will never forgive myself and I hope she does.
How is Maria de Nati like up close?
It’s hard for me to talk about who I am or see myself from the outside, but I try to empathize with the people around me, especially when it comes to work.
Do you practice any sports?
I used to play soccer when I was little but I stopped over time.
Now I think paddle is super fun, especially the idea of meeting up with friends and everything that comes with it.
What are your hobbies and interests?
Dancing makes me happy, singing (alone), painting.
What are your job expectations after this project?
I hope to be involved in projects that fulfill and satisfy me professionally and personally, that are challenging and help me grow.
Do you have any future projects that you can tell us about?
On December 5th, the movie “Al otro barrio” will be released, where I play a very different character.
