The British makes his official comeback to releasing music today with his third studio album How Did I Get Here? Louis Tomlinson breaks with a four-year break since his last drop Faith in the Future, from November 2022. He is back with one of his most personal productions.

The Silver Tongues artist brings a brand-new pop LP that comes with indie, soft rock and synth-funk influences. How Did I Get Here? is composed of fourteen fire tracks where Louis explores a new personal phase. Moreover, there is a clear predominance of guitar, synth and strings arrangements throughout the album.

The new disc comes by the hand of BMG and is also available on all digital platforms and physical formas such as CDs, vinyl and cassettes. Furthermore, the British songwriter admitted that How Did I Get Here? is one of his most ambitious works to date.

Tomlinson spoke about how he felt when creating his latest production in a recent interview with Billboard. The former One Direction member expressed how he did not feel as pressured writing this new album, as compared with Faith in the Future (November 2022) and Walls (January 2020).

“Towards the end of the Faith in the Future tour, we started doing a bit of writing in the country in England, two years ago now. And what was really nice about that is I knew that I wasn’t in any rush to make the record”, said Louis Tomlinson to Billboard.

“I had the opportunity to be able to make mistakes, and creatively, that’s a really good thing. There were a couple of times where I’d have a week off touring, and I’d go do a bit of writing, because I wanted to scratch that itch. But I also wanted to allow myself time — because in the past, on previous records, I could feel the clock ticking, and that’s not a good feeling” – Louis Tomlinson on Billboard, 2026.

On the other hand, one thing that stands out from his two previous album recordings is that this last one was created in Costa Rica. Louis admitted that he was searching for a new place to record how he wanted the album to sound. “With this record, I decided to record most of it in Costa Rica, just surrounding myself with how I wanted the record to feel.”

He then commented on how he thought about this recording process away from home a few years ago. “My [younger self] would think anything like that was just some hippie s–t — “Surely where you write songs isn’t going to really affect the music!” But of course it does. So this record has been about taking risks, really, after feeling like I’ve been in a bit of a pressure cooker until now”, admitted Louis to Billboard.

The How Did I Get Here? Singles

On the other hand, the British artist released several single songs to promote the album. The first one out was Lemonade, released on September 30, 2025. The lead track of the album is a funk-inspired fun and ambitious tune that leads the pace perfectly for the rest.

On November 14, 2025, Palaces was launched as How Did I Get Here?’s second single. The metaphorical tune brings out a more indie-rock version of Louis. Its strong guitars sound and the catchy chorus create one of the most praised songs in the album, and one of the artist’s own favorites.

Imposter was released a few days before the disc’s release, on January 16, 2026. In this new tune Louis gets more reflective and melodic than the previous singles, singing about doubting himself and not feeling deserving of his achievements. The introspective song point out the most vulnerable side of Tomlinson, shedding light on the unknown faces of rising to fame at such a young age.
