A masquerade of love and chaos leads fans into Laufey’s dreamy new musical chapter.
A New Era Begins with “Silver Lining”
Icelandic-Chinese singer-songwriter Laufey has officially kicked off the next chapter of her musical journey with the release of “Silver Lining,” her latest single and music video. The track marks what is believed to be the first offering from her anticipated third album, expected later this year.
“‘Silver Lining’ is a love song about being able to set your true personality free when you fall in love,” Laufey said when announcing the track. “Your inner child comes out and you are emboldened by lust. Even if it takes you to hell, at least you’re with your partner.”
A Surreal Masquerade Visual Experience
The song arrives alongside a visually striking music video directed by Jason Lester, who previously worked on Laufey’s “From the Start” and “Santa Baby” visuals. Shot entirely on 35mm film, the video transports viewers to a masquerade ball that begins dreamily but soon unravels into a surreal, chaotic descent — a metaphor for the emotional turbulence of love.
The choreography draws inspiration from Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring, blending elegance with disorder. In the final moments, Laufey is left in a peaceful yet poignant closing image, suggesting resolution amidst emotional wreckage.

Hints at Her Third Album
Although no official album title or release date has been confirmed, Laufey has made it clear she’s deep into the creative process. In late 2024, she told Variety that she was working on the follow-up to her Grammy-winning album Bewitched. She promised the new project would stay true to her signature jazz-influenced sound while introducing fresh elements that reflect her personal and artistic growth.
“I never want to stay stagnant,” she said. “I always need to add a little something new, so as to not be bored.”

Laufey’s Growing Impact and Tour Plans
Laufey’s rise continues to gain momentum. In March 2025, she graced the cover of TIME as one of the magazine’s Women of the Year. She also brought her sound to the big screen with a cinematic Imax showing of her Hollywood Bowl concert with the LA Philharmonic.
While a full tour has yet to be announced, Laufey has several orchestral performances scheduled throughout 2025, including stops in New Orleans, Brazil, Virginia, New York, and Ohio.

Looking Ahead
“Silver Lining” offers a soulful, cinematic preview of what’s to come. With emotionally rich lyrics, vintage aesthetics, and genre-defying ambition, Laufey continues to carve out a unique space in the modern music landscape — one where orchestras meet Gen Z vulnerability.
Fans can expect more announcements soon as Laufey builds toward what promises to be a thoughtful and resonant third album.
