Ana de Armas Will Star As A Ballerina-Assassin
Ballerina, the spin-off movie directed by Len Wiseman starring Ana de Armas as another assassin in the John Wick universe, has been pushed back a year. It will now hit theaters only on June 7, 2025. Ballerina will be the franchise’s first attempt to expand the universe to other assassins.
Lionsgate has expressed wanting to take more time to amp up action and film more action scenes. Some critics deem it good news; it could be an opportunity to fix the less efficient aspects of the prequel, The Continental, released in 2023.
This new addition takes place between the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and Chapter 4. Ana de Armas plays ballerina-assassin Rooney, who hunts the murderers of her family. De Armas will replace Unity Phelan, principal dancer of the New York City Ballet, who previously portrayed the character in John Wick: Chapter 3.
Anjelica Huston and Keanu Reeves as Wick will also make appearances. Gabriel Byrne plays the main antagonist of the film. It will be released posthumously for American actor Lance Reddick, who sadly passed away in 2023 from heart disease. His role in Ballerina as Charon was his last one.
