Under the title of GUTS spilled Olivia Rodrigo launched the deluxe version of her album, including the highly anticipated song Obsessed
GUTS spilled, the deluxe edition of Olivia Rodrigo‘s chart-topping second album, is available now. The new version includes five additional songs. Finally, including her new single “obsessed,” which she has performed every night on the GUTS World Tour. Obsessed also dropped with a new and already iconic music video. The song originally appeared as a hidden track on D2C’s exclusive red vinyl, standard black, and additional variants of GUTS vinyl. The Deluxe album also includes “girl I’ve ever been”, “scared of my guitar” and “stranger” and “so American”.
Olivia is currently on a massive 75-date sold-out tour across North America, Europe and the UK with stops in Miami, Toronto, New York, London, Manchester, Glasgow and more. The GUTS World Tour will take her to world-renowned venues such as Madison Square Garden, Kia Forum, Sportpaleis and The O2. Hailed as an “instant classic” by Rolling Stone, a “masterpiece” by the Los Angeles Times, and “scathingly charismatic” by Pitchfork, GUTS topped album charts in more than 13 countries, including the United States, where it debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, coinciding with the return of the lead single “vampire” to the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 and Rodrigo’s number 1 ranking on the Artist 100, giving her a hat trick on the charts.
The other 11 tracks from GUTS appeared in the top 40 of the Hot 100, making Rodrigo the first artist to include all the songs from two albums that opened her career there. When critics reflected on the best albums of 2023, GUTS appeared on over 30 lists, including The New York Times, Rolling Stone, NPR, Pitchfork, and Billboard.
The announcement took place during her concert in Chicago
During a surprise reveal, Olivia Rodrigo announced the release of Guts (Spilled). In the midst of her closing encore performance of “Get Him Back!“, Rodrigo unveiled a sign reading “Guts Deluxe Out Friday,” sparking cheers from the crowd.
Obsessed was the most expected song and debuted with a new music video
Olivia Rodrigo also unveiled the music video for “obsessed“. Directed by Mitch Ryan, the video features Rodrigo presiding over a beauty pageant, all while consumed by feelings of inadequacy regarding her partner’s ex. Co-written alongside St. Vincent (Annie Clark) and frequent collaborator Dan Nigro, “Obsessed” is available to watch below:
The official music video for “obsessed“, directed by Mitch Ryan, plunges Olivia Rodrigo into a competitive pageant setting. Viewers can’t help but suspect these beauty queens (whose sashes proclaim titles like “Miss Thought She Was the One” and “Miss Mom’s Favorite”) all share a romantic history with the same guy Rodrigo pines for. However, Rodrigo‘s world transcends mopey heartbreak. Straight-faced verses explode into frenetic choruses fueled by searing guitar and flying streamers. Even after the chaos subsides, the video concludes with Olivia, still in her black gown, diligently cleaning up the aftermath. Despite its previously mentioned vinyl exclusivity, “Obsessed” has become a fan favorite. Originally a hidden track on the standard vinyl version of “Guts,” the song’s widespread fan distribution cemented its importance. Further solidifying its place in Olivia Rodrigo‘s setlist.
The other songs from Guts Spilled were only available in the limited edition except for so american
Olivia Rodrigo‘s deluxe edition, Guts (Spilled), offers intriguing content for fans. Among the four bonus tracks, “so American” stands out as a rarity in her catalog: a high-energy love song dedicated to someone seemingly from outside the U.S. Lyrically, she expresses blossoming feelings (“He laughs at all my jokes…Think I’m in love“) while reveling in the novelty of this connection.
The remaining bonus tracks (“girl I’ve Always Been,” “scared of My Guitar,” and “stranger“) lean towards a more acoustic sound. The deluxe album really balances the melodic and the almost rock sound of Olivia. Two songs dive into melancholic territory. “scared of My Guitar” finds her distancing herself from her songwriting muse, claiming “I can’t lie to it the same way that I lie to you.” Similarly, “stranger” explores a cherished misstep with the line “I’ll love you ’til the end of time” despite acknowledging the need to keep them apart. A lighter note is struck with “girl I’ve Always Been,” a playful kiss-off hinting at Olivia‘s potential for a country-tinged sound.
Currently, Guts (Spilled) is available digitally only, for streaming and download. However, a limited-edition, “splatter”-colored 2-LP vinyl version is available for pre-order at Rodrigo’s web store. Be forewarned, though: shipping delays due to industry congestion mean these records won’t arrive until July 19th. Previously, all except for “so American” from these bonus tracks were bundled on the limited-edition Record Store Day EP titled “Guts: The Bonus Tracks.”
Olivia is currently hosting her world tour but nobody knows if she could surprise us with new music or another video for a new song. Livies can, however, expect content from her tour on social media almost daily.
