Westeros is heading to the big screen as Warner Bros. has begun development on a Game of Thrones movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project is in its very early development stages, and no director, writer, or cast members are yet attached. It is also unclear whether the film will serve as a sequel to the HBO series or explore new material in a spin-off format.

Notably, this is the first time Warner Bros. has seriously considered a Game of Thrones film. While series showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss once proposed producing three movies instead of a final season for the hit show, HBO rejected the idea, opting instead to wrap up the series in an eighth season that many fans found disappointing.
There was once talk of a Jon Snow sequel series, though that project was ultimately canceled; however, according to reports, it could still inspire ideas for a potential film. Since Game of Thrones concluded in 2019, fans have seen two seasons of the prequel House of the Dragon, and another prequel titled A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is set to arrive in 2025. This series, set a century before the events of A Song of Ice and Fire, will follow the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire, Egg.

The original series, based on the A Song of Ice and Fire novels by American author George R. R. Martin, featured an extensive cast, including Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Emilia Clarke, Kit Harington, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams, Isaac Hempstead Wright, Iain Glen, and Alfie Allen, among others.
