Dwayne Johnson, Leonardo DiCaprio and Emily Blunt will lead the cast of Martin Scorsese next film: A dramatic thriller in the vein of ‘Goodfellas’ and ‘The Departed’ written by journalist and novelist Nick Bilton.
The film is set in Hawaii, in a turbulent time when an aspiring mob boss battled the establishment to wrest control of the islands’ criminal underworld. It was a bloody battle that took place in the 1960s and 1970s, in which this formidable and charismatic man waged a brutal war against mainland corporations and rival syndicates while fighting to preserve his ancestral land.

The film of Martin Scorcese, still without an official title, is based on the untold true story of a man who fought to preserve his homeland through a ruthless pursuit of absolute power. A war for cultural survival also takes place in the most unlikely of places: paradise.
Johnson will obviously be the main protagonist of this film, which he will also produce alongside Dany Garcia, Lisa Frechette, Rick Yorn, Stacey Sher, Jennifer Davisson and the aforementioned DiCaprio, Blunt, Scorsese and Bilton.
This will be the seventh or eighth collaboration between Martin Scorsese and DiCaprio, who have previously worked together on films such as ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ or the recent ‘Killer Moon’. The seventh or eighth, depending on which is shot first: this film or the adaptation of ‘The Devil in the White City’, the non-fiction work by Erik Larson originally published in 2003. A project backed by 20th Century Studios that they have been trying to make happen for fifteen years, and Deadline confirmed a month ago that this year they were going to try again for the last time.

This will be the first time that Johnson and Blunt have collaborated with each other, although it will be the third time that they share the cast after having done so in ‘Jungle Cruise’ and ‘The Smashing Machine’, A24 film directed by Benny Safdie to be released later this year that could give Johnson his first Oscar nomination.
The project does not yet have a distributor, and as is expected, in the coming days a fierce battle will break out in Hollywood to obtain its rights.

Just as has happened with the next film by director Joseph Kosinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer, a conspiracy thriller described as “a ‘All the President’s Men’ with UFOs” for which, according to Deadline, Apple has taken the lead.
