Dolly Parton’s iconic hit Light of a Clear Blue Morning just turned 50 years since its launch. To celebrate this astonishing accomplishment the legendary country artist released a new version of the song featuring surprise female stars.
The Tennessee musician conserves some of the best friendships with fellow singers and some of them are part of this special production. The popular singer and actress Miley Cyrus joins her own godmother on this new work. Moreover, she performed this very song at the Saturday Night Live show as a tribute to Parton. Queen Latifah’s great connection with Dolly goes back to their team up at the Joyful Noise musical, from 2012.
Another country legend such as Reba McEntire also takes part in this stellar collaboration. Just like Dolly, her career became one of the most influential to their fellow musical style artists. To close the great mix of female voices Lainey Wilson comes in. She is one of the most popular country singers from the new generation to the genre.
The Song’s Creation
Light of a Clear Blue Morning was released on January 19, 1976, by a young Dolly Parton, who wrote about an emotional moment of hope and transition. In the mid-70’s the Tennessee star was going through a rough time in between professional stages. It was a time of change when Dolly separated from the team she made with mentor Porter Wagoner. Light of a Clear Blue Morning talks about a hurtful, conflictive yet full of uncertainty time for the singer.
It’s been a long, long time/ Since I’ve known the taste of freedom/ And those clinging vines/ That had me bound, well I don’t need ‘em/ I’ve been like a captured eagle/ You know, an eagle’s born to fly/ Now that I, I’ve won my freedom/ Like an eagle, I am eager for the sky

This new version of the song comes to celebrate its anniversary and to honor the Jolene singer’s birthday, as she turns 80 today. In some recent declarations Dolly remembers the time when she first wrote her historic track. “I wrote ‘Light Of A Clear Blue Morning’ during a season when I was searching for hope, and 50 years later that message still feels just as true,” admitted the 9 to 5 singer.
“As I celebrate my 80th birthday, this new version is my way of using what I’ve been blessed with to shine a little light forward, especially by sharing it with some truly incredible women”, she continued in her statement.

Dolly’s Own Day
On the other hand, as a way to commemorate Parton’s birthday, the Tennessee Governor Bill Lee approved to “officially designate January 19, 2026, as Dolly Parton Day”. Moreover, Lee made this announcement public by saying: “Dolly Parton’s life and career is woven into Tennessee’s music, culture, and rich history.”
Tennessee’s Governor then continued to praise the iconic artist: “Her talent and generosity have made a lasting impact on the world, and it is fitting that we honor her 80th birthday by celebrating her remarkable legacy and dedication to the Volunteer State.”
