Charli XCX releases three new “rock music” singles after her super hit album Brat, from 2024. However, there is no official announcement about when will the full album be launched.
Charli’s new artistic direction has surprised even her most loyal fans. After turning Brat into a cultural phenomenon dominated by aggressive synthesizers and club rhythms, the British artist has decided to embrace a much rawer, guitar-driven aesthetic for her next album.
The singer herself announced a few weeks ago that “the dance floor is dead” and that she now wants to make “rock music,” making it clear that this new phase aims to break with everything that came before. Now, while Charli XCX releases three new “rock music” singles, there is no official release date for the album.

Rock Music is the first single from Charli’s new album
The three songs already released from this era showcase different facets of that transformation. Rock Music, the first official single, blends distortion, hyperpop, and a brash attitude reminiscent of both 2000s electroclash and contemporary experimental pop.
Although the title seems to herald a radical change, Charli constantly plays with irony and avoids being pigeonholed within traditional rock. The result is a chaotic, provocative, and deliberately unsettling sound, where traces of her electronic DNA still linger.
(Me and my friends, we go out/ We take pictures and make stuff together/ And sometimes we cry/ We kiss each other, real incestuous vibes/ (I knew you’d like that)/ Yeah, we’re so inspired/ Basically, all the time/ Yeah, we’re on to the next/ I think the dance floor is dead/ So now we’re making rock music/ Wow, I’m really banging my head/ I’m really hurting my neck/ The nervе damage is real/ But it’s the only way to feel somеthing/ Hurt yourself/ Yeah, maybe jump off the stage/ I hope they catch you today/ But if they don’t, it’s okay) – Charli XCX single Rock Music lyrics.
Charli XCX’s newest single is called SS26
The second major release was SS26, a much more conceptual and dark song. In it, Charli uses the world of fashion and runways as a metaphor for cultural collapse and the contemporary obsession with image.
The music video, set in an almost apocalyptic fashion show, reinforces this sense of glamorous decadence that seems to define this new artistic phase. Musically, the track incorporates heavier guitars and a less polished production, approaching an industrial and abrasive aesthetic.
(Spring Summer ’26/ When the world is gonna end, no hope for any of it/ Yeah, we’re walkin’ on a runway that goes straight to hell/ I know/ Cigarettes, put ’em out/ Can’t believe the things I’ve done, I don’t do ’em now/ But I didn’t do it, even if I did/ No, it’s not my fault, I wasn’t there/ Think my politics could work as a press strategy/ And my heritage could give me quite thе USP/ Can’t hide the fact I’d rather takе the easy road/ Yeah, I think I’ll be alright if I look good in the clothes) – Charli XCX new single SS26 lyrics.
The third song associated with this new era is I Keep On Thinking Bout You Every Single Day and Night. Which is a more exclusive and experimental release that initially circulated on vinyl and Instagram. Although less explosive than the other singles, the song maintains the emotional tension and melancholic tone that runs throughout the project.
Here, Charli seems to explore a more vulnerable version of alternative rock, using repetitive melodies and minimalist production to convey obsession and emotional exhaustion.
Charli’s change of style and fan’s reactions to her three new songs
This stylistic shift also reflects a personal and artistic evolution. In various interviews, Charli explained that repeating the dance-pop formula of Brat would have been too predictable and emotionally draining. Therefore, this new album features more organic instruments and less autotune.
It also counts with a production inspired by experimental rock and early 2000s alternative pop. Far from abandoning her identity, the singer seems interested in distorting and reconstructing it from a much more aggressive and theatrical perspective.
The fan reaction has been as intense as it has been divided. On social media and forums like Reddit, some are celebrating this reinvention as one of the most interesting moves of her career. While others are still trying to figure out if Charli is completely serious or if it’s all part of a grand conceptual provocation.
This very ambiguity seems to be at the heart of this new phase. An artist who plays with the expectations of contemporary pop and turns chaos into her primary creative tool.
