British superstar Charli XCX just dropped her first solo single after her Brat era. Chains Of Love comes as part of the soundtrack for Wuthering Heights, the new movie starring Charli.
The well-known alternative electropop artist embraces tradition and rejects modernity on her upcoming project. The 360 singer prepares the arrival of her new album Wuthering Heights, which will come out the day before the movie’s release, on February 13, 2026. She is the one responsible to create the soundtrack for Emily Brontë’s movie adaptation from 1847. Furthermore, XCX will make her debut as an actress in Emerald Fennell’s special film adaptation.
Chains Of Love is a personal and emotional hit song that fans are eating up. “Shatterin’ like glass/ Yes, they’re breakin’ up my heart/ The chains of love are cruel/ I shouldn’t feel like a prisoner/ My face is turnin’ blue/ Can’t breathe without you here/ The chains of love are cruel/ I shouldn’t feel like a prisoner”.
However, this is not the first thing we hear coming from the movie. She previously released a stellar collaboration with John Cale, which came as the musical preview. House was launched on November 10, 2025, opening the pace for the British artist’s newest production.
John Cale’s spoken monologue opens the track that continues with a string composition. A more electronic mix of sounds begins with Charli and John’s lyrics saying, “I think I’m gonna die in this house”. This part of the song repeats itself until the end of the tune. It is a very strong yet revealing way of entering this new era of Charli’s music.
On the other hand, Charli opened up on Substack about how she felt when receiving Fennell’s invitation for the movie. “In early December 2024 I got a text from an unknown number that turned out to be Emerald Fennell. […]. The text felt out of the blue but obviously intriguing. I had heard through the grapevine that she was making an adaptation of Wuthering Heights and so when she sent me the script to read I devoured it instantly.”
She also commented on her feelings towards making something so different from her previous work. “I called Emerald and asked her what she was hoping for from my read of the script. She coyly suggested ‘A song?’ and I suggested ‘An album?’ because why not?”

“I wanted to dive into persona, into a world that felt undeniably raw, wild, sexual, gothic, British, tortured and full of actual real sentences, punctuation and grammar. Without a cigarette or a pair of sunglasses in sight, it was all totally other from the life I was currently living. I was fucking IN”, told Charli to her fans on Substack.
