RAYE made history by winning six of the seven BRIT Awards she was nominated for and Dua Lipa had the look and performance of the night
The 2024 BRIT Awards witnessed a historic night, with RAYE dominating the ceremony. The British singer-songwriter, previously overlooked by her record label, secured an unprecedented six awards, including the prestigious titles of Artist of the Year, Album of the Year (“My 21st Century Blues“), and Song of the Year (“Escapism“). This feat surpassed previous records, with Blur, Adele, and Harry Styles previously holding the record of four awards in a single year. Notably, RAYE also became the first woman to win Songwriter of the Year.
She spoke passionately when given her award. RAYE remarked, “The artist I was three years ago wouldn’t believe I’m in control: I’m my own boss.” This sentiment resonated deeply, as she had endured years of rejections from her record label before ultimately gaining control of her music. This empowered her to release her songs independently, leading to the viral success of “Escapism” and its subsequent rise to number one.
Dua Lipa’s performance was the biggest moment of the night

On the international front, American songstress SZA achieved a significant victory by conquering the Best International Artist category, even surpassing the formidable competition of Taylor Swift. Additionally, Miley Cyrus‘ emotional ballad “Flowers” deservedly claimed International Song of the Year, and the girl band boygenius, consisting of Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus, and Julien Baker, received the accolade of International Group of the Year.
The ceremony culminated with a celebratory performance by Kylie Minogue, this year’s BRITs Global Icon Award recipient.
