Legendary singer-songwriter Billy Joel has canceled all upcoming tour dates after being diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH).

The news was confirmed in a statement posted to Joel’s official Instagram account:
“This condition has been exacerbated by recent concert performances, leading to problems with hearing, vision, and balance. Under his doctor’s instructions, Billy is undergoing specific physical therapy and has been advised to refrain from performing during this recovery period.”
The announcement comes as a shock to fans of the iconic performer, who has spent decades thrilling audiences around the world and breaking attendance records at venues like Madison Square Garden.
Joel, 75, had been scheduled to perform at stadiums nationwide this summer and into next year, sharing the stage with music legends like Rod Stewart, Sting, and Stevie Nicks.
Ticketholders for the canceled shows will receive automatic refunds, according to Joel’s team.

What is Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus?
Normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) is a neurological condition caused by excess fluid buildup in the brain’s ventricles. According to the Alzheimer’s Association, NPH can result in symptoms such as memory loss, difficulty walking, balance issues, and loss of bladder control.
Unlike many brain disorders, NPH is sometimes treatable with timely medical intervention. Joel’s representatives emphasized that he is receiving excellent medical care and remains hopeful about returning to the stage:
“Billy is thankful for the excellent care he is receiving and is fully committed to prioritizing his health. He is grateful for the support from fans during this time and looks forward to the day when he can once again take the stage.”
In a personal message to his fans, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer expressed heartfelt regret:
“I’m sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience, and thank you for understanding.”
Billy Joel’s Wife Breaks Silence
Alexis Roderick (43), his partner, thanked fans for their support in a heartbreaking social media update on Monday.

“Thank you for the outpouring of love and support,” Joel’s wife wrote next to a family photo that included the singer and their daughters Della (9) and Remy (7). “We are so grateful for the wonderful care and swift diagnosis we received
“Bill is beloved by so many, and to us, he is a father and husband who is at the center of our world,” she explained.
Roderick closed the message with optimism. “We are hopeful for his recovery. We look forward to seeing you all in the future.”
A Rock Legend
Known for his musical versatility, Joel has long captivated audiences with his ability to move between soulful ballads and gritty anthems. Tracks like “Just the Way You Are” and “Piano Man” reflect his lyrical sensitivity, while “My Life” and “You May Be Right” showcase his punchy, working-class New York swagger.
It’s this range, equal parts poet and punk, that’s made Joel one of the most enduring voices of American rock.
As fans around the world send their well wishes, one thing is certain: Billy Joel’s music—and spirit—aren’t going anywhere.
