Indie band Bastille comes back to the music sphere with a brand-new single called Save My Soul. This is their first launch since the British group’s three-year hiatus.
Bastille’s new hit came unexpectedly when they were in the middle of their reunion UK tour. The band decided to create the From All Sides UK arena tour to revisit their older songs and enjoy the live audiences. During this new tour, they started to perform it without thinking much of it.
With time it became one of the public’s favorite tunes and “what started as a spontaneous jam during tour rehearsals quickly became a live highlight, erupting into massive sing-alongs each night alongside fan-favorite Pompeii”, according to Mystic Sons. Furthermore, the band announced that they plan to have some live shows next year to continue this new musical wave.
Are you gonna love me when the shine has worn off? / When I’m old and I’m tired and I’m grey? / Are you gonna be there when all the lights have gone out? / And the moon’s pulled the tide far away? – Save My Soul lyrics.
According to NME, the new hit was “born from the energy of being back in the same room rehearsing together, the song captures a sound reminiscent of their Wild World era, and strikes a balance between introspection and vulnerability, along with euphoria and celebration.”
In an interview, Bastille’s frontman, Dan Smith admitted: “We hadn’t really thought of working on new music, but Save My Soul came about from us all hanging out and rehearsing for these gigs recently. We’ve really loved playing it at these shows and are really excited to be releasing something new. It’s been a while.”
Save My Soul comes as Bastille’s first release after their last studio album Give Me the Future, launched in February 2022. In this last production, the band experimented with pop-rock, electropop and synth-pop sounds, with a more modern approach. The indie group started to mix futuristic and technological thoughts about the present era.
After their 2022 drop, two years later, they decided to immerse in a new experience and launch a different project called &, and pronounced Ampersand. & came as their most intimate and conceptual project to date, far from their ‘classic’ discs. &’s songs were written based on past personal and symbolic stories and are more narrated and paused than usual.
On the other hand, the From All Sides Tour celebrates the first 15 years of the band. Its main objective is to review their past hits, “deep cuts”, most popular versions and mixtapes. In addition, Bastille will be touring across the UK next summer for some festivals.
