According to The Hollywood Reporter, ‘Barbie 2’ is already in its early stages of development. The outlet says that the duo Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach, screenwriters of the original film, already have an idea for the new film that seems to have convinced Warner Bros. Pictures.
The news indicates that, if they finally reach an agreement, the couple will begin working on the project after finishing their work on their respective upcoming films. Baumbach is working on a future Netflix project starring Gerwig herself among others, while Gerwig also has the new adaptation of ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ pending.

However, in an interesting turn of events, both representatives of Warner Bros. and those of Gerwig and Baumbach assured that at the moment such a sequel is not planned. “THR’s news is inaccurate,” said a representative of Warner Bros. Meanwhile, a representative of Gerwig and Baumbach said that “There is no legitimacy to assure that.”
With a worldwide gross of $1.441 billion (it is the 14th highest-grossing film of all time), Margot Robbie stars as Barbie, while Ryan Gosling plays Ken. Together, they embark on a journey into the real world after an existential crisis makes them question their lives in Barbieland.

The film was nominated for eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Supporting Actor (Gosling), winning the statuette for Best Original Song for Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For?”
